Chapter 35: Three-Week Soup Diet: Results and Insights !
Three-Week Soup Diet: Results and Insights
As a 28-year-old male with an intermediate-level physique and over six years of consistent weight training under my belt, I never anticipated that dental surgery would lead to an unexpected dietary experiment. But that's exactly what happened.
Why the Diet Happened
Due to a painful infection, I had to get my wisdom teeth removed. What should have been a straightforward dental procedure turned into a three-week-long ordeal—consultations, medications, and eventually surgery. The infection delayed my ability to heal properly, and even after the procedure, I needed an additional three days of rest before I could comfortably chew solid food.
What I Ate
During this period, I was on a completely liquid diet. My daily meals consisted entirely of:
-
Chicken, mutton, beef, mushroom, and vegetable soups
-
Yogurt-based broths
-
Around 4.5 to 5 liters of water per day
No solids, no processed food, and absolutely no cheat meals.
Results: Leaner, But Not by Choice
After sticking to this soup-only diet for just over three weeks, I noticed a significant change in my body composition. I lost close to 5 pounds. My physique became noticeably leaner—but not in a way I appreciated. As someone who has worked hard to build muscle, I began to look thinner and felt like I was losing the definition I had worked years to achieve.
However, it wasn’t all bad.
Unexpected Takeaways
Though I didn't pursue this soup diet intentionally, I now realize that it can be quite effective for:
-
Quick weight loss
-
Body recomposition (especially in individuals with higher body fat percentages)
-
Digestive relief and detox
-
Maintaining hydration
The low-calorie, nutrient-dense nature of soups—especially when combined with high water intake—makes it easier to maintain a calorie deficit without feeling deprived.
Final Thoughts
This wasn’t a planned diet or fitness experiment—it was a necessary adaptation due to a health issue. Still, the results offered some valuable insight. If you’re someone looking to lose weight quickly or reset your digestive system, a short-term soup-based diet might be worth exploring. However, for those like me who are more focused on maintaining or building muscle mass, this type of diet might not align with your goals.
As always, this is based purely on my personal experience. Nutrition is highly individual, and what works for one person may not suit another. But if you're curious about alternative ways to manage weight or cleanse your system, a soup-focused diet might be an eye-opening approach.
