Chapter 43: How Long Does It Take to Love Going to the Gym?

How Long Does It Take to Love Going to the Gym?

The truth is, there’s no fixed timeline for when someone starts to enjoy working out—it often happens the moment you begin to feel appreciated or notice progress. In fact, sometimes it only takes one small moment of recognition to completely change your mindset.

Take my wife as an example. For months, I struggled to convince her to join me at the gym. Even when she did come, she wasn’t really enjoying the process and often found it tiring and frustrating. But one day, something changed. A trainer at the gym asked his trainee to watch her form and use her posture as the perfect example of how to perform the exercise safely. Hearing that completely shifted her perspective. From that moment on, she felt proud, motivated, and even started flexing in front of the mirror with newfound confidence.

The same happened when her friends began noticing changes in her physique, telling her she was “getting toned.” That external validation gave her a sense of achievement and encouraged her to keep pushing forward.

This experience taught me that motivation doesn’t always come from within—it can be sparked by little moments of recognition from others. Whether it’s a compliment, visible progress, or even a supportive gym environment, these small boosts can make all the difference in staying consistent. And consistency, above all else, is what leads to real results.

So if you’re struggling to love the gym right now, don’t worry. Focus on finding those small wins and sources of encouragement. With time, they will not only help you stay committed but also allow you to enjoy the journey just as much as the results.
